Footage shows a giant sunfish that washed up on a beach in the Philippines.

Astonished locals gathered to see the beautiful marine creature in Cebu in the south of the country.

Onlooker John Reco Estrera captured the video while waiting for local authorities to collect the rare fish.

He said the fish died an hour later and was turned over to the town's Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.

John said: "I was amazed because this was the first time I saw such a big fish but it was also sad because he did not live long.''

Ocean Sunfish (Mola mola) generally eat jellyfish and are found in seawater around the world. They get their name from their habit of basking in the sun to warm up before they dive hundreds of metres into the depths of the ocean.
