Hundreds of ants follow each other round in circles creating a whirlwind pattern
This is the amazing moment a colony of army ants crawled in synchronised movement creating a circular whirlwind pattern.
Nattakit Sukkha found the tiny creatures in the shady part of a rubber tree plantation in Trang province, southern Thailand, on November 16.
The baffled resident said he was on a morning walk with a friend when they noticed the insects forming the strange circle.
He then pointed his flashlight on the ground and began filming the ants forming the mesmerising loops.
Nattakit said: "It was the first time I've seen anything like this in the forests. They were all just moving in the same direction like an army.''
However, despite being visually-striking, the scene was actually a bizarre natural phenomenon called an 'ant mill.'
It is seen among army ants where they would walk in circles after losing the pheromone track.
The blind ants, having separated with its main foraging party, will continue to follow each other round in circles until they eventually die of exhaustion.
