Smoke fills skies of Paris amid France security law protest

Smoke rose into blue skies above Paris on Saturday (November 29) during a protest against a draft security law and police racism.

France's lower house of parliament has already approved the security bill that would criminalise images of police officers on duty that have the aim of "damaging their physical or psychological integrity". It would also give greater freedom to police to carry out certain kinds of surveillance.

Many believe the law could be abused to restrict legitimate filming and photography.

The protests were given added impetus with the emergence of footage showing French police beating and tear gassing a Black man in a sustained attack.
