This is the heart-stopping moment a piece of loose metal flew off a truck on the motorway before smashing into the windscreen of a car behind.

Sompat Yangrurob was driving along in the Thai capital when part of the cabin of the vehicle in front appeared to fall off and hit the ground before flying into his car.

The metal sheet shattered the windscreen but he managed to pull over the vehicle onto the hard shoulder.

The driver said he was shocked when the metal hit his car but immediately hit the brakes to avoid further accidents.

He said: "At first I thought it was a piece of paper until it was close to my view and hit my car hard."

No one was hurt in the incident and Sompat drove to the repair shop with the truck driver who promised to pay for the damage.
