Panic buying continues at Tesco two days before Christmas despite rationing measures

Shoppers at this Tesco Extra on Wednesday (December 23) in Woolwich, southeast London, found many shelves had been stripped as panic buying continued with just two days until Christmas.

Vegetables, chickens and Yorkshire puddings were among the products in short supply. Several pasta shelves were also bare, reminiscent of the first wave of panic buying earlier this year.

Last-minute Christmas shopping, coronavirus Tier 4 restrictions and the last-minute push for a Brexit deal have created a combination of concern across England.

Tesco announced it has started rationing certain items in an attempt to stop panic buying of eggs, pasta and soap. Customers have been encouraged to "shop as you normally would".
