A farmer in Mayurbhanj, Odisha has devised an ingenious irrigation to water his crops using plastic bottles.

Mahur Tipiria built a water wheel where plastic bottles scoop up the water and empty into a bamboo shoot which then sprinkles the liquid over the fields two kilometres from the source.

Tipiria is also helping local farmers irrigate their land with his innovative system.

As farmers have received little help from the state government he took things into his own hands.

"We had filed repeated petitions to the government offices but no one came to help us, so I thought of developing this technique. It is always better to light a candle ourselves than to sit idle and curse the darkness," the farmer said.

An Indian farmer has devised and invented an innovative water lifting irrigation system that seems to bring a change in the field of farming and agriculture.

Mahur Tipiria, a resident of Badamtalia village in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha devised this irrigation system using bamboo and wasted plastic bottles to irrigate his farm land.

Mahur has attained no formal education and doesn't possess technical knowledge.

He is just using his brainstorming ideas to irrigate his farmland located 2 kilometres from the water source which is a river.

He has not only done this for his own farmland but also helping his villagers in irrigating their land with his specially structured system.

The nature friendly device doesn't use polluting generator sets nor electricity but just a common gravity trick.

The bamboo is placed on a sloping structure as the wheels of structure keeps rotating due to the water current and hence lifting water from the source via the water collected in the small plastic containers made out of waste water bottles.

The water is then channelized through the bamboo pipe towards the farmlands.

While the farmers have got no help from the state government, Mahur decided to set up his own device to irrigate his land without any help.
