Footage shows thick mud being cleared off a hillside road in the Philippines after heavy rain from the northeast monsoon battered the area.

The roads in Baras town, Catanduanes province, was filled with rock and mud debris from eroded mountain soil on January 10.

Rescuers were deployed to ensure that the roads were safe to motorists and residents in case an evacuation was needed due to floods.

Heavy rain has been battering the region since last month and has caused floods which have submerge several provinces in the Bicol region.

The state weather service said the continuous rain was caused by a frontal system and the surge from the northeast monsoon.
