Two US Army National Guard members have been removed from inauguration duty as part of the vetting process to ensure troops do not have extremist ties, according to multiple reports.

The Associated Press news agency, citing an intelligence official and a US Army official, reported that the two National Guard members have been found to have ties to fringe militias.

Video from Saturday shows streets in the U.S. capital falling quiet amid checkpoints, concrete barriers, temporary fencing, boarded up storefronts - as well as military, police, and public works vehicles - ahead of Wednesday's presidential inauguration.
