A skier in Predeal, Romania, had a lucky escape after being chased down a slope by an aggressive bear.

Footage filmed by David Creta who was on a ski lift shows the skier race down the Clabucet slope as the wild animal is close behind.

In an attempt to distract the bear, onlookers were screaming and whistling.

Daniel Jenei, a skier who witnessed the chase, told ABC News: "Ski patrol stopped us told us there was a bear at the bottom of the slope. All the people that were down there threw their skis down and ran from the slope."

The quick-thinking skier managed to escape after throwing away his backpack as a distraction.

Authorities have reportedly promised to relocate the bear to a safe area.
