A stray dog found itself locked inside a toilet with a leopard for over seven hours in southern India's Karnataka on February 3. The incident took place in the Bilinele village, located in the Puttur region of Dakshina Kannada district.

Visuals shows the dog cowering in one corner while the big cat rests in the other. However, upon noticing commotion outside, the leopard lunges towards the window, baring its teeth.

The officials, along with the locals, gather outside to commence the rescue. Armed with tranquilizer guns, the forest officials climb atop elevated surfaces to carry out the rescue operation. A few members cover the shed with a net while the others mount an excavator.

To escape from the big cat, the dog entered the lavatory. However, the leopard followed it. Upon noticing a tail in the washroom, a local latched the door from outside, trapping the duo inside the four falls. She alerted the police and the forest department, who swung into action immediately.

The officials decided to make a hole in the asbestos sheet roof of the toilet in an attempt to tranquilize the leopard. They used an excavator to access the roof and cast nets over the shed. They also placed a cage outside the lavatory to trap the leopard. However, the big cat managed to slip through the net and fled the scene.

There was a half an hour delay in acquiring the tranquilizer injections from Mangalore. Apart from that, the rescue team, including Sullia Assistant Conservator of Forest, Austin P Soans, also faced other challenges such as the positioning, congested area, and damage to the property. They planned on rescuing the wild cat and releasing it into the forest. However, the leopard made a fleet-footed escape while the dog emerged unscathed from the incident.
