The tourists who chose the city of Puerto Madryn, in Patagonia Argentina, as their vacation destination, were able to enjoy this weekend a true "dolphin show", which entertained with their pirouettes around the boats the passengers who perform the walks on the Golfo Nuevo, the south face of Peninsula Valdés.

The tourist star of the region is the southern right whale that is not found in these months because it has already emigrated to the open sea to fulfill its biological cycle.

But, to the satisfaction of the tourists, that empty space was covered by these marine mammals that jump over the water mirror, accompany the boats and can be seen in full.

Specialists point out that the "most popular actor in the show" is the dark or Fitzroy's dolphin, which is spotted in groups ranging from eight to fifteen specimens, although sometimes there are hundreds jumping in the vicinity of the boats.

There are others, such as common dolphins, that are associated with dark ones because altogether they locate schools of fish more easily and every so often a bottlenose dolphin appears.

All this set makes the possibility of sighting 100%, that is to say that as long as the weather conditions favor navigation and a certain stillness in the hair of water, a dance of these specimens around the boats is guaranteed.

Dolphins can be observed almost all year round in the surroundings of Peninsula Valdés, but they enter the Nuevo and San José gulfs in greater numbers during the summer months in South America, between January and March, attracted by the schools of anchovies, which they usually swim in groups of hundreds.

This show is also usually complemented by seabirds that take advantage of this concentration of fish to feed themselves, so it is easy to detect the presence of dolphins when you see a great disturbance of birds over the same area.
