Young artist lifts nearly one thousand razor blades with his eyelashes in southern India
A 20-year-old folk artist, Dr. R. Kalaiyarasan, has set his own world record by lifting nearly a thousand blades with his eyelashes while carrying a water pot on his head in southern India's Tamil Nadu on November 1, 2020.
Footage shows the young artist from Coimbatore city dressed in traditional attire and performing a dance routine. The audience's cheer gets louder with each sharp object he lifts with his eyelashes.
The young folk artist founded the Phoenix Book of World Records, where he creates his own various world records.
The water pot, traditionally known as a Karagam, is a headgear worn while performing Karakattam, a folk dance in Tamil Nadu for rain goddess Mariamman.
According to local media, Kalaiyarasan has been interested in folk culture since his childhood and has dedicated his life to preserving it, now working as a traditional cultural trainer representing the Tamil Nadu government.
Kalaiyarasan has been awarded the United Nations (UN) Global Compact award, an honour for exhibiting 32 different art forms. He is also credited for lifting 18,200 needles with his eyelashes and performing folk dances on broken glass pieces for several hours.
