Air Customs officials seized marijuana from postal parcels in southern India's Tamil Nadu on February 23. The incident took place at the Foreign Post Office, located in Chennai.

Visuals witnessing the smuggled items feature an official opening a yellow parcel. Following this, they discover a silver plastic cover with marijuana ingeniously concealed inside it. The staff assembles all these illicit items on the counter to keep a check on them.

The Air Customs have seized 300 grams (0.66 lbs) of cannabis worth Rs. 2.5 lakh (USD 3,455), which was sent from Toronto in Canada. The officials detained three postal parcels that arrived at the Foreign Post Office. These packages were addressed to a Chennai-based person.

Inside the parcel was an opaque silver color plastic cover with markings as 'Blu D'. When these concealed parcels were opened, semi-dried leaves having a strong smell similar to cannabis of high quality known as hydro cannabis were recovered. Each packet contained 100 grams (0.22 lbs) of marijuana.

Cannabis is a psychotropic substance commonly known as marijuana, weed, herb, etc, containing the psychoactive chemical delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). On smoking it, THC stimulates the brain and it responds to pleasure, and unleashes dopamine which gives a euphoric relaxed feeling.
