On February 28, elections were held in El Salvador to elect the 84 deputies of the Salvadoran Congress. During the civic day, the mayors of the 262 municipalities of the country will also be elected. The elections are held in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, so the electoral authorities have warned the population to take the appropriate health measures. The Attorney General of the Republic, Raúl Melara Morán, has said that the day has started late due to failures in the logistics of delivery of the electoral packages, by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal. The polls give the winner with a wide margin of deputies to the New Ideas party, akin to the President of the Republic Nayib Bukele.
