Demonstrators came face to face with police forces in a protest against attacks on women held on International Women's Day (March 8).

Footage from Mexico City and Toluca shows hundreds of slogans graffitied onto a metal barricade set up around government buildings.

The protesters chanted with megaphones as they came face to face with a line of riot police.

Slogans reading "Mexico femicide" and "legal abortion now" were projected onto the National Palace.

Women marching on International Women’s Day have clashed with police at barricades surrounding the National Palace in Mexico City, where officers fired pepper spray after the protesters attempted to tear down a metal wall.
Protesters wrote the names of femicide victims on the barricade after it was installed on Friday and later covered it with flowers. They also projected slogans on the National Palace – a seat of power since Aztec times – reading: “Mexico femicide” and “legal abortion now”.

The video shows the scale of the protesters, even the elderly came to the protests. Police use tear gas as protesters try to break down the barricades. There is footage of protesters clashing with police.
