Hundreds of red kites were filmed recently swooping majestically over a lake near Aberystwyth in Wales.

The birds of prey became extinct in England in 1871 and only a few breeding pairs remained in Wales.

Now, thanks to conservation efforts, there are so many birds that they fill the sky as they arrive to be fed at Bwlch Nant Yr Arian.

"An amazing sight, these birds have a wingspan of around 2 metres!" said filmer Wayne Lewis.

The remarkable video was captured on April 3.

The red kite became extinct in England in 1871, and only a handful of breeding pairs were remaining in Wales in 1903. By the 1990’s there were around 100 pairs. Due to conservation efforts you can now see hundreds feed and fill the sky at sites like Bwlch Nant Yr Arian, near Aberystwyth in Wales. An amazing sight, these birds have a wingspan of around 2 metres!
