A car skidded down a 9-metre-high road bank after trying to avoid a scooter in eastern China.

The CCTV video, filmed in the city of Shengzhou in Zhejiang Province on March 27, shows a speeding car suddenly changing its direction to avoid a scooter running a red light.

However, the car lost control and dropped down a 9-metre-high road bank.

A passenger reportedly climbed out of the car by himself and was not injured seriously. Firefighters saved the trapped motorist named Shen after around half an hour and he suffered fractures to his back.

According to reports, Shen was in a rush to get his child to school and ran a yellow light and the scooter ran a red light.

Shen took primary responsibility and the scooter rider took secondary responsibility for the accident, reports said.

事故发生在当天清晨6点多，小车翻入的是落差9米高的堤坝，交警接警后立即赶往现场。

在消防以及医务人员的协同下，半个多小时后，驾驶员沈某被救出。幸运的是，沈某经救治，当天下午就恢复了意识，不过经诊断腰椎骨折。

嵊州市公安局交警大队民警 黄琪超： 由于比较赶时间 然后压了一个黄灯 当时车速也比较快 在驶入该路口的时候 有一辆电动自行车闯红灯 左转弯驶入104国道 该驾驶员看到闯红灯的电动自行车后立马向左打方向 但是由于没有及时刹车 撞到了路边的护栏 在撞到护栏后 车子还是比较快 于是翻车。

因电瓶车未与轿车发生碰撞，电瓶车事发后当即离开了现场，交警在事发后第3天找到了电瓶车车主叶某，并对事故进行定责，经认定，小车驾驶员沈某负事故主责，电瓶车骑行人叶某负事故次责。交警提醒，宁等三分，不抢一秒，文明安全出行，还请大家遵守交通法规。（视频由浙江台提供）
