This remarkable time-lapse clip shows how gases erupting from a volcano in Iceland affect the surrounding weather.

The clip, which was filmed and created on May 1, shows a plume of gas rising from the crater of the Gelingdalur volcano and changing the clouds above.

"Volcanic gases influence clouds because the gases contain aerosols, or tiny particles, around which clouds form," explains the filmer Hafstein Robertsson.

The volcano began erupting on March 19 and is ongoing.
