Residents of Bangalore in India today (May 24) witnessed the rare sight of a rainbow-coloured ring around the sun.

The 'halo' was visible from most parts of the capital of Karnataka state from around 11 am and lasted for over an hour.

The rare phenomenon is popularly known as the 22-degree halo as the hoop has a radius of approximately 22 degrees around the sun.

A rare occurrence unfolded when a unique rainbow-like ring encircled the sun in southern India's Karnataka on May 24. The incident took place in Bangalore.

Visuals feature a thin, rainbow-like halo encircling the sun in the sky. While clouds remain scattered against the clear, blue sky, the bright ball of fire shines from between the halo.

This event is popularly known as the 22-degree halo as the hoop has a radius of approximately 22 degrees around the sun. The Bangalore sky lit up with this unique occurrence as several people came out of their houses to behold the experience.
