Devotees of Jain community carrying the mortal remains of National Jain Sadhvi Kamla Kanwar (85) being taken for the last rites, at Hindu crematorium in Beawar. She passed away on Monday night after 49 days of Santhara (fasting). National Vice President of BJP and Rajasthan's former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje condoled her death. Hundreds of people reached Beawar from various parts of the country to pay tributes.
Santhara is the religious practice of voluntarily fasting to death by gradually reducing the intake of food and liquids. It is viewed in Jainism as the thinning of human passions and the body, and another means of destroying rebirth-influencing karma by withdrawing all physical and mental activities.
