Phone box in shadow of phone mast due to be removed in Kent, UK

As a sign of the times, a phone box situated opposite a mobile phone mast, has been earmarked for removal by British Telecom (BT).

The traditional pay phone booth located in Bluetown - a district of Sheerness in Kent - will be removed unless the community decides to keep it.

BT claim on average only one call a month is made from the phone box. As mobile phone usage increases, it may be the end-of-the-line for the traditional phone box.

Minster-on-Sea Parish Council “strongly opposes” the removal of a similar box in neighbouring Minster on Sea, which also averages only one call a month, and claims the removal of three boxes on the Isle of Sheppey could cost lives according to Kent Online. Opinions on social media appear divided.

Footage recorded 24 June shows the poorly maintained box complete with weeds growing in the bottom and the old BT 'piper' logo on the window.
