The Fire Brigade reported a total of 43 forest fires across Greece in the last 24 hours on Monday (July 12).

In Thessaloniki, a wildfire broke out in Seikh Sou Forest on Tuesday noon (July 13).

Five fire-fighting aircraft, two helicopters, and one Russian Beriev Be-200 Altair have been put into the fray to put out the wildfire, which reaches right up to the edge of the city.

The aircraft fleet has been constantly dousing the flames from above, while the Russian Beriev 200 aircraft made a crucial role in the fire-fighting effort.

Holidaymakers had to be evacuated as the fire brigade managed to cut off the fire heading toward the hotel 'Philippio,' which had been safely evacuated with the assistance of the police. A total of 64 firefighters, 21 fire engines, and four teams of the foot are operating on the ground.
