This is the amusing moment hundreds of ducks held up cars while they crossed a road in Thailand.

The flock delayed traffic as they scampered onto the other side of a road between two rice fields in Uttaradit province on July 12.

Most of the motorists patiently waited as the birds following a single file rushed in front until a rider with two pillion passengers rode across and interrupted the animals.

Some of the ducks were apparently startled and went the opposite way but they were unharmed and continued crossing after the two-wheeler had passed.

Onlooker Sirilak Wankaeo said: ‘We had to wait for all the ducks to cross. They looked so funny running. I hope the motorists would be more patient with the animals in the countryside. That’s just the way life is here.’

The traffic was stopped for almost 15 minutes but the flow returned to normal after all the birds were able to safely cross.

Raising British breed Khaki Campbell ducks in rice-growing areas had been a tradition in many parts of rural Thailand. Locals called it ‘ped lai thoong’ or ‘field chasing ducks.’

The ducklings are taken to fields after 20 days in the nursery where they would hunt and feed on rice pests such as snails and insects. This in turn reduces costs for the duck breeder.
