A bizarre video has emerged of a giant manta ray being lifted by a crane in the La Cruz cove, Tumbes, Peru.

The footage, captured by visitor Kelly Cruz earlier this month, shows the eight-meter long sea creature, believed to weigh nearly a tonne, being hauled with a crane.

According to local repots the ray, which is classified as 'vulnerable' on the red list of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, was accidentally captured by fishermen before its death in the incident.

Samples were then taken from the creature for scientific analysis.
