Forests in southern Spain have turned to ash and charcoal after the worst wildfire in 30 years tore through the province of Malaga.

Rain overnight aided firefighters who were able to declare that the blaze in Sierra Bermeja near Estepona was under control on Tuesday morning.

The fire has destroyed 9,963 hectares and forced tens of thousands of evacuations.
