Risky ride on the back of a moto-taxi in Chinese rush hour

Footage captured by a visitor to China while riding as a passenger on a motorbike taxi during rush hour in Chengdu on Wednesday.

The video shows the driver making a number of hair-raising manoeuvres including driving against traffic and dodging between pedestrians on zebra crossings.

“Have you ever tried riding a tuk-tuk in Thailand and thought it was dangerous? Don’t ever think about hiring a moto-taxi in China during a rush hour. Never ever,” the filmer from the Czech Republic later wrote online.

“I decided to take a moto-taxi in Chengdu (Sichuan province) as I was late for a meeting and this was the only way to get through a traffic jam in the rush hour. While wearing a suit I experienced something unbelievable for a western driver. The Chinese driver was missing pedestrians narrowly, driving in the opposite direction a few times and ignoring pedestrian crossings completely.

“It was the only way to get on my meeting on time. Basically he was driving an electronic motorcycle with some sort of a trailer where I was sitting. It wasn’t comfortable and safe in any mean but it was quite fast and cheap.”
