Palestinians and foreign volunteers pick olives under eyes of Israeli troops at Eviatar outpost in West Bank

Palestinians and foreign volunteers picked olives next to the Israeli settler outpost of Eviatar (also spelt Evyatar) in the West Bank, on Sunday 10 October.

The locals and foreign activists were helping in solidarity with Palestinians whose land was confiscated by Israeli settlers in the village of Beita, north of Nablus in the West Bank.

While the wildcat Evyatar outpost was evacuated in July, under a deal between settlers and the new Israeli government, most buildings were allowed to remain and the Israeli army will maintain a presence in the area, prompting fears by Palestinians that it could be reoccupied.

The hilltop area is near Nablus in the northern West Bank -- Palestinian territory occupied by Israel since 1967.
