A sky-watcher filmed these stunningly colourful clouds in the skies above southwestern Switzerland on October 15.

The technical term for the effect is "iridescence" and, according to the filmer, most people never notice it.

"It is often unseen since it happens in clouds very close to the Sun," said Olivier Staiger.

Staiger said he used a Canon EOS R6 with an 800mm lens set at a shutter speed of 1/8000 seconds to capture the natural phenomenon.

He said he enhanced the colours and contrast but only "slightly."
