A highway was flooded after a heavy rain in western Thailand.

Video shows the cars moving through the flooded highway in Tak province on November 1.

The deluge caused movement to slow to a crawl, with queues of vehicles stuck in bumper to bumper traffic as authorities pumped out floodwater onto the hillside to ease congestion.

Driverd have been instructed to avoid the route until the situation improves. Motorists were also asked to drive with caution.

Visitor Varaporn Soiraya said: ‘There was a landslide in the same area and the traffic lasted for hours. I’m glad I managed to drive through safely.’

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
