Surfers enjoy the chilly surf conditions in Scarborough, Yorkshire, UK.

Scarborough is fast becoming a surfing hot spot of the UK with surfers drawn from all over the country. The UK surf community have started heading to this coastal town to catch off season big waves and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of North Yorkshire.

Traditionally Cornwall and Devon have been the surfing hubs of the UK and in the Summer that is still the case however Scarborough is drawing crowds all year round and especially during the winter months. Grabbing a wet suit and paddling out before first light isn’t a deterrent but part of the sport for many young surfers. Even in the depths of winter if you come down to Scarborough beach before sunrise you’ll see dozens of extreme sports enthusiasts paddling out to catch the early morning waves.

Tom who is a local in Scarborough said “We’re lucky hear. Scarborough is kind of less known for surfing and that the way we like it in some ways. We can surf all year round and not have to compete on waves with large groups of surfers like in Cornwall”.
