Several pairs of Great Crested Grebes (Podiceps cristatus ) nested in Herdsman Lake during October and November 2021. This pair was particularly confiding, allowing close observation from a boardwalk just next to them. The video clips show a high level of parental care, with the female with one chick on her back with the other in the water nearby, the male feeding a chick a small fish, a chick climbing on to the male’s back and the female feeding a small feather to the chick on the male’s back.
