This disgruntled elk charged and dented a tourist's van during mating season.

Dale Boan was on hand to capture the action in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada on September 25th.

The elk can be seen huffing and puffing in anger whilst the van was trying to enter the campsite which the beast interpreted as a threat and charged towards it.

The sharp antlers dented the outside of the van and made an almighty thud with no long-lasting damage or injury caused.

Dale said: "This is an alpha male which has been guarding his harem of females from challengers for weeks.

"The van is very close and he challenges it with a threat.

"Unfortunately the driver revs the engine to move the van - this was likely seen as a counter-challenge and the elk charged the van.

"The van drives away damaged but with no injuries to the occupants or the elk.

"Since neither of the occupants or the elk were injured, I was happy and excited to see and record the interaction."
