A Thai army training helicopter crashed December 14 and killed two pilots.

The aircraft took off from Lopburi province and was in a chain of several other choppers when it suddenly lost control above trees in the Nakhon Sawan province at around 9 a.m. local time.

Footage shows how the helicopter burst into flames upon impact. The two dead pilots were named as Lieutenant Colonel Panphong Banjongplien, the aviation instructor, and Lieutenant Chanakorn Piamcharoen, the aviation apprentice.

Officials are now investigating what caused the Enstrom helicopter with a Rolls-Royce 250-C20W engine to crash.

Surrounding roads were closed while investigators sifted through the wreckage.
