This is the shocking aftermath of the devastating underwater volcano eruption that rocked the island nation of Tonga in the south Pacific.

The explosion happened on Saturday and this footage is from Monday (January 16) and the footage shows the total destruction that ensued afterward.

The eruption triggered a 1.2-meter tsunami wave and evacuation orders and much of the island remains uncontactable after communications were cut off.

"[I have] arrived home to find it still structurally intact but damaged. Mud, debris, boulders, and ash [were] everywhere. I started gathering what was worth saving and put it all in the truck. I know this life, there is much to still appreciate. I've grown up in this neighborhood for the majority of my life. The Ovava trees down the road, we planted those. You can tell how high the reach of the tsunami was and how far inland it went," the doctor wrote on Twitter.
