There were clashes between Palestinian protesters and Israeli security forces on Friday 21 January, after a demonstration against Israeli land seizures.

The incident happened in the West Bank village of Kfar Qaddum, near the Jewish settlement of Kedumim.

For years, villagers from Kafr Qaddum and neighbouring villages have been protesting every Friday against illegal Israeli settlements, and to call on Israeli authorities to reopen the village’s main road, which has been sealed off by the occupation authorities since 2002.

Last Friday, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the Palestinian people have the right to defend themselves and realise their right to self-determination, establishing an independent Palestinian state with its 1967 borders.

Israel has occupied the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which are claimed by the Palestinians, since the 1967 war.
