A mum who "hated" her children's dull bedroom and beige rug has transformed the space into a colourful tie dye masterpiece – but the look has left TikTok users divided.

Sydni Neumann, 33, from Spokane, Washington, is mum to two-year-old Gemma Lemony and four-year-old Milo Brontë, who she shares with partner Sam, 32.

Earlier this year, the thrifty mum decided to tackle the standard wool carpet and white walls in Gemma Lemony's room by using fabric dye and paint to design a psychedelic space.

The DIY transformation, which has racked up over 1.4 million views on TikTok, took just one day and was done with a bargain budget of $60 (£44).

"Obviously there isn’t any guidance online for a project like this so I winged it!" she told Jam Press.

"And my children love it.

"The carpet was in poor shape before but we weren’t ready to replace the flooring yet, so I decided to try this!

"I used rit fabric dye, water, a carpet shampooer to remove the water.

"The most common question I get is if the dye bleeds and it does not!

"All excess was removed with the shampooer."

Sydni has also transformed her Milo Brontë's room, showing off an equally jazzy tie dye rug in that room.

In the video, the mum-of-two shares step-by-step instructions to first creating the tie dye rug, twirling the paint across the beige carpet and filling in empty spaces with other colours like purple, green, red and orange.

Meanwhile, Sam, who works in photography for schools and yearbooks, paints the walls in a jet black shade called Tricorn Black.

Once finished, the pair move the cot back in, as well as a chair, chest of drawers, chair and sheepskin throw, as well as various decorations including a funky painting of a colourful llama.

The clip has garnered over 207,000 likes on TikTok, leaving users deeply divided on the unique look.

"My mind: they just childproofed a CARPET.. literally anything that is spilt or drawn on it will just blend in .. SMART," wrote one person.

"I LOVE THIS! It’s totally an original and out of the box idea!!!! This is like a revolution in art!" added someone else.

"Obsessed with the vibe," wrote another user.

"I WANT HIPPIE CARPET THAT IS SO WICKED COOL!!" commented another fan.

"Hell nah," wrote a sceptical user.

"Oh no baby that ain’t gonna work," wrote a sceptical person.

"I just can’t imagine that the dye doesn’t bleed. Idk this is wild people are doing this. But to each their own," added someone else. [sic]

"Some things are a no, this is one. Sorry!" wrote another person.

"Why did you do that," asked another baffled user.
