Refugee Victims Earthquake of West Sumatra Indonesia

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 rocked West Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra, Indonesia. The earthquake occurred Friday, February 25, 2022. As of Saturday, local authorities recorded 14 fatalities.

The victims came from two districts, namely West Pasaman and Pasaman District. A total of 10 victims have been found, four others are still being searched. In addition to causing casualties, the disaster also caused thousands of houses to collapse.

More than 10,000 people were also forced to flee. The main evacuation site is located in the front yard of the West Pasaman regent's office.

One of the victims, Yusnelti, admitted that she had just entered the evacuation site in the early hours of the morning, because there was no transportation that would take her from home to the refugee camp.

The Deputy Regent of West Pasaman, Risnawanto said his party had formed a number of evacuation points. Currently, the refugees need food, minimal water and needs in the health sector.
