After it was announced British-Iranian Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was given back her British passport yesterday, the Iranian judiciary on state media today confirms she was handed over to a British team and was on her wasy to Tehran Airport, ending a 6-year detention over secret charges.
A second British-Iranian detainee Anoosheh Ashoori has also been freed.

Husband Richard Ratcliffe and family members campaigned tirelessly for her release and Mr. Ratcliffe went on hunger-strike twice; in 2019 and in the autumn of 2021 - he is seen here talking to MPs on the second day of the protest (filmed on 25th October 2021) opposite the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Although it was never officially confirmed as the reason for Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe's detention, the Foreign Office urged the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to pay a £400m debt owed by the UK government for the non-delivery of military tanks decades ago.
This morning Iranian state media confirmed the debt had been repaid.

Mrs Zhagari-Ratcliffe is expected to arrive back on British soil at 10pm local time.
