"The first days were the most difficult. We had to learn how to work with bombings and strikes. My workday is 24/7 now, I'm here all day."

Dr. Iryna runs the perinatal center in Kharkiv, Ukraine and has dedicated her life to caring for newborn infants going through difficult times in their first few days on this world.

But Iryna's world, and the city she resides in, was one of the main targets of Russian forces as they advanced in on the eastern city.

"On the first day of the war, all pregnant women and mothers were evacuated to the basement. It was a terrible three hours that we spent together,"

"Unfortunately, we can't take babies who are in intensive care to the basement because they rely on life-saving equipment," she heartbreakingly commented alongside photos of infants in need of dire medical attention.

She's been heroically saving lives under siege and fire since the invasion began, but when legendary footballer David Beckham decided as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador to lend her his 71.6 million Instagram followers, signs pointed up.

"After David's help, the whole world prompted to help with humanitarian aid quickly! We saw that everything was very slow, now it will definitely be faster!" Iryna told the awaiting public in this exclusive video.

"Remember that tomorrow the war will not end; we need a strategic supply of medicines for mothers and children," Iryna urged, noting the hours, days and weeks she and her staff have poured into caring for at-risk infants in a war zone.

"I just bow endlessly to my staff who stayed here with me. Many of them have not been home for all these 26 days. Many were left without homes and took their parents, wives, and children here, some even brought a cat. If not for them, there would be no story with David Beckham's page. My deepest gratitude to them," she said.

On Instagram, the freekick phenom and father-of-four urged his followers to donate to UNICEF, providing access to clean water and food, ensuring child protection services continue, and assessing the refugee situation in neighboring countries for those affected in Ukraine.

"Thanks to your donations, the oxygen generators they have received are helping newborns survive in appalling conditions," Beckham told his followers. "Please continue to support these incredible people and charities like UNICEF in any way that you can. Together we can really make a difference.

David and his wife Victoria confirmed a personal donation of an undisclosed amount, according to reports.
