A grandmother foraging in a forest in Thailand was shocked when she found two enormous mushrooms bigger than her head.

Busadee Tongpun, 66, discovered the huge fungi in the jungle next to the Wat Pha Huay Lad temple in Loei province, Thailand on March 31. She had gone into the woodland to search for mushrooms to eat as it had just rained in the area.

While picking some of the mushroom sprouts, she spotted the two gigantic white caps springing up from the ground. She plucked them and rushed back home to show the bountiful harvest to her daughter.

The fungi, which appeared to be oyster mushrooms, each spanned about 70 centimetres wide and weighed a hefty five kilograms. Busadee later cut up and boiled the mushrooms, drizzling them in chili sauce and sharing the feast with her neighbours and relatives as they were too large for her family to eat alone.

She said: ‘These are the biggest mushrooms I have ever seen in my entire life. They are so big we had to share them with the neighbours to help finish them.’
