How about a steaming plate of fried river worms?

Might sound unappealing but this dish is a local speciality in northern Vietnam and a favourite meal for many.

The worms are collected from beneath rocks in the riverbed and then soaked in salt water for about 20 minutes to remove their outer layer of slime.

They are then deep-fried in oil and served piping hot.

Locals say they have a pleasantly meaty taste.

Fried rock worm is one of the strange dishes that the ethnic community in the north of Vietnam considers a specialty. The rock worms are strangely shaped, scary looking, but have become a favorite "favorite" of the people here.
The rock worm has the same appearance as other worms, but it has no outer hair and lives under the rocks in the stream. They cling to each piece of rock, the closer the rocks are to each other, and the faster the water flows, the deeper the rocks. Rock worms are only available in the dry season, in order to catch them, they must be skillfully turned over and used a net to pick them up.
When caught, people bring them to soak in saltwater for about 20 minutes to remove all the outer slime layer, then fry with hot oil.

The rock worm dish is considered one of the 15 most terrifying dishes in the northern region of Vietnam.
Many people when eating said that the dish has a fatty, fleshy taste and has a characteristic aroma. Some people dare not eat when they see the rock worms.
