A woman in Thailand miraculously survived after a metal spike pierced right through her head.

The lady's family called for an ambulance in Phetchabun province, Thailand on April 20 evening after the dart shot through her face and came out near the back of her ear.

Gruesome photo shows how the spike impaled the woman’s cheek just two centimetres away from her eye. It then appears to have protruded further through the back of her head.

The victim was rushed to the Nong Phai hospital, but doctors had to contact rescue volunteers as they had problems safely pulling the 12cm-long rod out of the woman’s face.

Paramedics held onto her head to prevent the object from driving into other vital organs while the volunteers cut the dangerous piece of metal.

The woman remained calm and did not display any strange behaviours after the incident. Her x-ray scans showed that the dart did not damage brain tissue, nor did it pierce through any important nerves or organs.

Volunteer Natchapon Aimsongkram said the woman's injury was caused by a workplace accident.

He added: ‘I saw the metal bar and thought it looked just like a blowgun dart. I did not ask her how it happened or who did that to her.

‘I’ve seen many dart cases, but none were as scary as this one. The dart was so close to her eyes. She is lucky it did not blind her. I only hope she recovers soon.’
