A fire ripped through a luxury yacht causing more than £367k in damages on the holiday island of Phuket in Thailand.

The catamaran named Jimmy Blue was docked at Phuket's Yacht Haven Marina when it caught on fire on Saturday afternoon April 23. Officers arrived at the scene and found the blaze spreading from the vessel's stern to its bow as black smoke rose in a thick plume.

It took firefighters with the help of passers-by around 30 minutes to bring the flames under control. Due to the damage, only the yacht's prow was visible after the fire was extinguished.

Oil booms were deployed to contain potential oil spills. No casualties were reported as there were no people on board the 40ft long vessel during the accident, which was reportedly sparked by an electrical short-circuit.

The Jimmy Blue has a passenger capacity 17 people. It received its license in 2014, and was allowed to ply the routes between Ranong and Satun provinces.

Authorities estimated the damage to be around 16 million THB (about 367k GBP). An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the fire.
