Gunshots and tear gas color the demonstration against the New Autonomous Region in Papua
A demonstration by the Papuan community alliance against the establishment of a new autonomous region, in Jayapura, Papua Province - Indonesia, Tuesday (10/5/2022) was intercepted by Indonesian police. Hundreds of demonstrators, who tried to break through the blockade by the Indonesian police, were repelled with water cannons and tear gas.
Until now, the Indonesian police have continued to guard, while the mass of demonstrators still persisted in voicing their aspirations through loudspeakers, despite being confronted by the police.
