An animal-loving couple won the lottery gave their old house to stray cats.

Raksina Nakseethong, 34, and her girlfriend Thipwan Chomphong, 36, scoped 170,000 Baht (4,900 USD) which they used to buy a new property in Ratchaburi province, central Thailand.

However, instead of selling their old two-bedroom house, they decorated it with several cat villas to house nine adopted stray cats they took in from their neighbourhood.

Cat lover Raksina said they believed the good deed was a way to repay the cats for the happiness they have brought them.

She said: ‘One day we said to the cats ‘If we get lucky you all can stay here,’ and we did win a large sum on the lottery.

‘We did exactly as we promised and gave them this house. We take care of them so they can all stay here together.’

Raksina added that the cats were previously owned by a neighbour who lived alone with the 16 moggies.

She said: ‘They were stray cats who used to be under the care of a 70-year-old grandmother who passed away.

‘For us, we have always loved dogs and cats so we tended to feed them when we came across them. However, the other neighbours didn’t liked them around.

‘So we took them all in and luckily, the other ten were adopted by kind families. Their nine siblings stayed with us. We promised to give them shelter.’

Now, the couple is renovating the house to make it more suitable for the animals and they hope to adopt more that roam the streets.

Raksina said: ‘We will fill up the gaps and holes around the house. In the future, if we run into more unfortunate cats we will bring them all here as well.’
