A water shortage in central India's Madhya Pradesh is forcing these villagers to walk miles.

The over 5,000 residents of Khamaliya have access to just 15 water pumps.

Footage from May 11 shows a group travelling 2 to 3 kilometres carrying large containers in soaring temperatures.

A farmer was seen complaining about the quality of the water, he claimed it was contaminated.

Power and water shortage has made life difficult for residents of a village in central India's Madhya Pradesh.

The location in question is the Khamaliya village in Sehore district of the state, which is also home to Madhya Pradesh's Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan.

Water shortage is a rampant problem for the village, which reportedly has only 15 hand pumps for over 5000 inhabitants.

Visuals, shot on May 11, show that women are forced to travel 2-3 kms (1.23-1.86 miles) everyday by foot along with their children to fetch water from the nearest wells in the scorching heat. A farmer also complained of the water being contaminated while they have no option but to make do with whatever they have.

There's also no electricity at night, making it difficult for the residents of this village to sleep well amidst growing temperatures in the country.

Farmers of the village have taken the help of social worker MS Mewada in requesting the Chief Minister and the Energy minister to improve water and power supply in the area.
