Footage of a newly opened petrol station in Auckland, New Zealand distributing a biofuel called 'Brewtroleum' – made from a by-product of beer.

The station - one of 60 such suppliers - was opened to the public on Monday by DB breweries, in partnership with biofuels firm Gull.

According to a description on DB breweries’ website, the fuel is produced by blending ethanol - extracted from yeast left over after beer is brewed - with normal petrol.

Launching the product, Chief Creative Officer, Nick Worthington said: “Kiwis love looking after the planet and they love drinking beer. Now the more DB Export they drink, the more of the world they can save. We’re very excited about Brewtroleum, and the opportunity to turn drinking beer into an incredibly selfless act.”
