Mother camel uses own body to protect calf from attacking wolves in China
A mother camel used her own body to protect her calf from being attacked by wolves in north-central China.
Video filmed in Aksay Kazakh Autonomous County in Gansu Province on May 17 shows two wolves circling a calf and the mother camel using its body to protect her baby.
Another clip shows rescuers arriving at Annanba Wild Camel National Nature Reserve in a car to save the camels.
According to reports, the mother camel protected her calf for around four hours until the rescuers arrived.
The wolves and the mother camel ran away after hearing the noise of the car and rescuers checked on the injured calf.
The calf was reportedly only a month old. His leg was broken and had surgery at a vet.
The calf has been sent to a local rescue station to be taken care of. It will be returned to the wild once recovered.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
