Sun shines brightly as heavy rain falls in Myanmar during bizarre weather paradox
This is the bizarre moment the sun shone brightly even as heavy rain fell in Myanmar.
Footage shows the sun's rays radiating from the sky over the city of Yangon, which was simultaneously experiencing a harsh downpour on May 25.
The phenomenon is informally known as a 'sun shower.'
During the weird weather event, temperature gradients cause air columns to rise in certain areas and sink in others. As the air rises, it cools and condenses, but the warmer regions below inhibit cloud formation, thus creating spaces of clear sky during precipitation. The sun also has to be at a low angle for it to be visible during the rainfall.
