Young girl falls into river, rescued by fire department in northern India

A young girl was rescued by fire department officials after she slipped and fell into the Beas river in northern India's Himachal Pradesh.

The incident happened on May 26, 500 meters away from the center of the Beas Bridge at Manali Leh Road Post Office.

The girl, identified as Kalpana Devi Gharti slipped and fell into the river. She is a 25-year-old resident of Bardiya in Nepal.

Video footage shows the fire officials lifting up the girl and then taking her to safety on the shore among the strong currents of the river.

Five officials from the fire department were involved in the rescue operation, which took 25 minutes. Among those involved in the rescue were one front guard, one commander, two home guards and a driver.
